Yes here! As Rahul Gandhi transitions from a pristine ascetic look, to a well-groomed gentleman-of-the-world visage, I’m not surprised that bigots and trolls are now whining about his UK tour. Cambridge, his alma mater, the British Parliament, the Indian diaspora and the highly prestigious and highly selective Chatham House are the ones who have invited the Congress leader and will show him off to the world, though not for the first time. His foreign relations are becoming almost routine. This is an itinerary that their red-eyed and big-breasted boss will never find himself on, not only because these institutions do not communicate with fascists, but also because Mr. Red-Eye will be loitering in their midst, struggling to articulate himself or Even answer one question by itself and without any (phone) prompting.
Bharat Jodo Yatra has indeed dispelled all the myths created by the BJP Information Center over the years and obviously Rahul Gandhi today is the most articulate, kind and eloquent leader of the nation and unites both the ruling party and the opposition in this regard. . I can’t see even Piyush Goyal (who will mix up his Einsteins with his Newtons) or Jayant Sinha (who might end up confusing criminals and achievers) holding their own among sophisticated western audiences like Rahul Gandhi and some Congress leaders and just two current opposition Leaders could – Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P. Thiagrajan. And these two are today as loathed by the BJP as Rahul Gandhi.
So why do so many opposition leaders seem to struggle to accept that Rahul is the best choice to take on Modi and replace the BJP? True, each of them has his own ambitions and believes that with just one pocket of influence in the country that can give them no more than two dozen seats in the Lok Sabha at best, each can end up as Prime Minister. And therein lies the tragedy of India.
I believe Rahul is our best hope for opposition unity for more than one reason. First, he is not ambitious for himself like the others – he asks not what the country can do for him but what he can do for the country, always. Just look at the Karnataka example of 2018. How many leaders in this country or anywhere in the world have had the courage and determination to surrender their mandate to another political party/leader to keep fascists out of power? That the BJP still managed to buy off some of the less committed Congress MLAs and eventually took the government there is another matter entirely.
