Speaking to reporters at a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, the ambassador said the United States wants an agreement between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund and is ready to work with Pakistan to help in the matter.

The US ambassador further said that he expected the issue between Pakistan and the international lender to be “resolved in a few days”.

Ambassador Blome expressed Washington’s willingness to help Pakistan with the ongoing challenge of terrorism. He further pointed out that significant progress had been made in the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The International Monetary Fund and Pakistan have been in stalled bailout talks since late last year, with Pakistan requesting a $1.1 billion tranche to tackle a worsening balance-of-payments crisis.

Both sides have been in talks to reach a mutually acceptable deal that would help Pakistan emerge from its ongoing economic turmoil.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said last week that Pakistan would reach a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund in a few days, as the government remained committed to completing the $6.5 billion loan program.
