Jaipur: The Rajasthan Police on Wednesday said the main accused involved in the murder of a tailor in Udaipur was in touch with Pakistan-based outfit Dawat-e-Islami and one of them had also gone to Karachi in Pakistan in 2014 to meet the outfit.

Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) ML Lather said that apart from the main accused, the police have also detained three other people who were in contact.

“Two men are the main accused so far. Apart from them, we have detained three others with whom they were in touch,” said DGP Lather.

He further said that the incident in Udaipur was an act of terror and the case has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), adding that the state police will assist in the investigation.

“The main accused were in touch with Dawat-e-Islami organisation. One of them had also gone to Karachi in Pakistan to meet the organization in 2014. We are treating it (beheading incident) as a terrorist act. The case has been transferred to NIA, State Police to assist in the investigation.

DGP Lather said that the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Station House Officer (SHO) has been suspended as he did not take necessary action to defuse the already polarized situation in the victim area before the incident took place. .

The beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur for allegedly posting material in support of suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma had sparked outrage across the country.

Kanhaiya Lal was cremated in Udaipur on Wednesday in the presence of a large number of people who raised slogans demanding capital punishment to the accused. He was cremated amidst heavy police security.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday took over the probe into the brutal murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, who was murdered inside his shop in broad daylight a day earlier, officials said. Told.

The incident is from Maldas area of ​​Udaipur on Tuesday. Police said that soon after committing the crime, both the accused posted a video on social media boasting about “beheading” and also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life.

Both the accused were arrested within a few hours of the incident. The attackers in the video have identified themselves as Riyaz Akhtari and Ghosh Mohammad.

Riyaz and Ghosh, residents of Udaipur, were arrested from Bhima in Rajsamand district.

In the video, Riyaz was seen attacking 47-year-old Kanhaiya Lal with a sharp weapon while the other Ghosh recorded the crime on his mobile phone.

Significantly, Kanhaiya had also lodged a complaint with the police about receiving threats.

The victim, reportedly, had recently shared a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma – the former BJP spokesperson who made controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

Following the murder, local markets in the area were closed as traders demanded justice for the victim.
