After a police team rushed to the spot, the complainant told them that a man had cheated him of Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of giving admission to his daughter in the college.

DCP (Central) Sanjay Sain said that on inquiry, the complainant said that he contacted the accused in October-November 2021, and the latter secured admission for his daughter who had failed to clear NEET in 2021 and 2022 for admission in the college.

“In December last year, the accused father-son duo called the college with Rs 30 lakh and handed over an admission allotment letter with a bar code in it. After checking the barcode information, he handed over Rs 26 lakh to the accused,” the police said.

The complainant later gave 4 lakh more to the accused but the latter did not grant admission to his daughter.

After a case of cheating was registered, the accused and another person were in police custody and the DCP said efforts were on to arrest other accused who are part of the racket.
