In 2017, the Supreme Court had ordered compensation of Rs 60 lakh per family to the displaced families during the Narmada project. An application was made in the Supreme Court to change the order and increase the compensation. The petition to modify the order was rejected by the Supreme Court.

A three-judge bench said compensation was admissible as per the old order. The families who were displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Yojana on the Narmada river demanded a compensation of Rs 1.28 crore per family as per the land price. Apart from the counsel for the petitioner, the Supreme Court also heard the side of the Additional Solicitor General appearing on behalf of the Central Government.

The court rejected the plea saying that there was no reason to review the Supreme Court’s order again. In February-2017, the court ordered compensation of Rs 60 lakh per family to 681 families.
