Senior journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik died at his home in Gurgaon on Tuesday after he fell unconscious, a close relative said. He was 78 years old. Vaidik is survived by a son and a daughter.
The relative told news agency PTI that the senior journalist had gone to the laundry at his Gurgaon residence in the morning. When he didn’t come out for a long time, his assistant got suspicious. He was taken unconscious to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Vaidik worked with the Press Trust of India (PTI) as founder and editor of the Hindi news agency ‘Bhasha’ for a decade. He also held the position of Editor (Opinions) at Navbharat Times of Times Group.
He was also the last president of the Indian Language Conference, an organization that protects the rights of Indian languages. He was a political scientist and a famous columnist. Those who know him closely describe him as a journalist and writer on the level of Prabhash Joshi and Rajendra Mathur. He also went to Pakistan and interviewed terrorist Azhar Masood. At one time he had bought the names of several popular magazines from a large group, so that they could be republished. However, his task could not be completed properly.
He studied and researched Afghan foreign policy and enrolled at Columbia University. He also received degrees from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and the Institute of Peoples of Asia in Moscow.
