Hyderabad: Suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh’s wife Usha Bai has approached the Telangana High Court seeking protection of the MLA lodged in Charlapalli Central Jail. She alleged that jail inmates might attack her husband.
Claiming that the MLA was not being provided basic facilities like cot, chair and newspaper, she requested the court to direct the concerned authorities to provide basic facilities to her husband.
In the petition, he said that Raja Singh should be treated as a special category prisoner as he is an MLA. He said that they should be allowed to meet their family members, voters and well-wishers twice a week.
Earlier, he had filed a petition against the detention of Raja Singh under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act.
Governor’s intervention sought
He had also sought the intervention of the Telangana Governor in repealing the PD Act imposed on Raja Singh.
Usha Bai along with the sisters of Raja Singh met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum.
The MLA was booked under the PD Act for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad and sent to jail on August 25.
According to the police, there are 101 criminal cases registered against Raja Singh. He is also involved in 18 communal offences.
Police said Raja Singh was “habitually giving provocative and provocative speeches” and “driving a nail between communities leading to public disorder”.
Raja Singh is a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from the Goshamahal constituency of Hyderabad. He was suspended from the party by the BJP last month after he uploaded an objectionable video on a YouTube channel.
