The annual conferences, which before 2014 were routinely held in Delhi (except for the 2020 meeting, which was held through video conferencing), are now held across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Conference of Environment Ministers of all states tomorrow Friday (September 23) through video conferencing. Prime minister’s participation in such national conferences, mainly with state policy makers, will help in fostering a Team India spirit for cooperative federalism.
Some recent examples in this regard are:
• Just 15 days ago on September 10, the Prime Minister inaugurated the ‘Centre-State Science Conclave’ in Ahmedabad through video conferencing.
• On August 25, 2022, the Prime Minister addressed the National Labor Conference of Labor Ministers of all States and Union Territories.
• On June 16, 2022, the Prime Minister went to Dharma Shala to attend the two-day National Conference of Chief Secretaries.
• On 30th April 2022, the Prime Minister inaugurated a joint conference of Chief Ministers of States and Chief Justices of High Courts.
Prime Minister’s leadership of timely and periodic meetings with Chief Ministers of States/UTs during the Covid pandemic in fostering the spirit of ‘Team India’ through the organization of such national conferences can be best exemplified.
The Prime Minister presided over twenty such meetings from March 2020 to April 2022. The Prime Minister believed that the challenge posed by a ‘once-in-a-century epidemic’ could be tackled only through concerted action by the Center and the states. This coordination will also be instrumental in the successful implementation of the world’s largest covid vaccine programme.
Similarly, the Prime Minister has taken keen interest in the annual conferences of DGP/IGPs and has ensured his participation in every conference organized since 2014. The annual conferences, which before 2014 were routinely held in Delhi (except for the 2020 meeting, which was held through video conferencing), are now held across the country. It is noteworthy that this conference was organized at Guwahati in 2014, Dhordo-Ran of Kutch in 2015, National Police Academy Hyderabad in 2016, BSF Academy Takenpur in 2017, Kevadia: IISER – Pune in 2019 and Lucknow in 2021.
