The Punjab Police and the Gilgit-Baltistan Police came face to face in the operation conducted yesterday (Tuesday) to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan from his Zaman Park residence. Lahore.

When a heavy contingent of Punjab and Islamabad police officers reached the entrance of Zaman Park, the Gilgit-Baltistan police opened fire on them, after which they went back for their lives.

In a joint operation by Islamabad and Punjab police, a fierce clash took place between police and PTI activists in which several policemen, including DIG Islamabad, were injured. PTI activists pelted stones at the policemen who were there to execute the arrest warrant of Imran Khan issued by the Islamabad court in the Tosha Khana case. There, the police fired tear gas and baton charges to disperse the party workers.

The operation in Zaman Park has been going on since yesterday but the police are still unable to arrest Imran Khan as he is using party workers as human shields.

The interim Punjab government in an emergency meeting this morning reiterated its decision to arrest Imran Khan to comply with a court order. Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the support of PTI workers to the injured policemen in the attack. Sources say that since Ali Bilal’s death, the caretaker government and the Punjab police have been reluctant to use “full force” to prevent needless killings. PTI supporter Ali Bilal alias Zal Shah died on March 8.

Earlier in a series of tweets this morning, Imran Khan said that Punjab Rangers were taking over security duties in place of the police stationed outside Zaman Park and claimed that his supporters had earlier been met with live ammunition and rubber bullets.

In his tweets, Khan lamented the “impartiality” of the military base and described the current PDM administration as “trying to loot and possibly kill miscreants”.
