Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Atta Bandyal has said that purely political disputes can be resolved through political dialogue and not through courts.

Addressing the International Judicial Conference in Islamabad, the Chief Justice said that I am sure the present judges will not allow anyone to negate the Constitution, the judiciary is determined to protect the Constitution.

He said that the parliament and the government should ensure progress through efficiency, not degradation. Judiciary has played a supreme role in the establishment of democracy by burying the theory of necessity.

The Chief Justice said that the dissolution of the assemblies in the no-confidence motion was declared illegal and the country witnessed a peaceful transfer of power for the first time.

He said that purely political disputes can be resolved through political dialogue and not through the courts.

Chief Justice Umar Attabandial further said that the country is currently facing climate change, recent floods have damaged one third of the country and after that the executive and legislature should wake up.

He said that all stakeholders will have to work together for constitutional supremacy, special steps have been taken to reduce the number of pending cases, due to the efforts of the Case Management Committee, the backlog of previous cases has been reduced by one-third. It will fill the shortage of pending cases by filling the shortage of judges.
