Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt have said the US will help Pakistan achieve its 60% renewable energy target by 2030.
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-March 15Th2023) Pakistan and the United States on Wednesday agreed to advance the transition to renewable energy and promote a stable, secure and prosperous energy future for both countries.
The agreement was reached at the Energy Security Dialogue in Islamabad, chaired by Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt.
Under the commitment, the United States will help Pakistan achieve its goal of 60 percent renewable energy by 2030.
The U.S. will also launch new programs in Pakistan, including a $500,000 project to restore power infrastructure in flood-prone areas of Sindh, a grant to advance research and development of electric vehicles at the Lahore University of Management Sciences, and support for the U.S.-Pakistan Women’s Council in Energy Program.
On that occasion, both countries also decided to continue deepening bilateral cooperation through the framework of the US-Pakistan “Green Alliance”. The framework will help them jointly address climate, environmental and economic needs through cooperation on renewable, sustainable and clean energy.
