Mahagathbandhan at the national level?
Patna: Will Mahagathbandhan reach the national level from the state level? Nitish Kumar recently broke the NDA alliance and created ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in Bihar. A total of nine parties including JDU, RJD, Congress formed the new government of Bihar. This time, the speculation is that the Mahagathbandhan will move forward in the national politics across the borders of the state. According to sources, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United chief Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav may meet Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to take the Mahagathbandhan to the national level. This meeting is scheduled to be held in Delhi next Sunday. This is the first time in more than six years that the three leaders are going to sit for face-to-face talks.
According to the sources, Nitish Kumar-Lalu Prasad Yadav is planning to form a Mahagathbandhan alliance at the national level as well, inspired by the practice that has started at the national level after the formation of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar. Two leaders of Bihar are going to Sonia Gandhi with that proposal. Nitish Kumar-Lalu Prasad Yadav are scheduled to meet Sonia Gandhi in Delhi next Sunday. According to sources, the two Bihar leaders want to meet Rahul Gandhi on Sunday. But at present Rahul Gandhi is busy with Congress’ Bharat Joro Yatra. Currently he is in Kerala.
Earlier, Sonia Gandhi had met Nitish Kumar at an Iftar party during the Bihar assembly elections in 2015. They spoke on the phone a few times, but never met face to face. On the other hand, when Nitish Kumar visited Delhi this month, he met Rahul Gandhi.
RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav was in jail for a long time in multiple corruption cases. Even after Corona, he spent most of his time in the hospital due to physical illness. Recently, he was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for about a month after falling down the stairs and fracturing his shoulder bone.
All three political parties have informed that this is only a courtesy meeting. However, internal news of the party, taking the Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan to the national level can be discussed among the leadership of the three parties. With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in mind, Nitish Kumar is already working on uniting the opposition parties. If the Mahagathbandhan alliance is formed at the national level as well, it is expected to further help in uniting the opposition parties to the BJP.
