Thiruvananthapuram: Just five days after he was declared the winner of the Rs 25 crore first prize in the Kerala government’s mega Onam raffle, autorickshaw driver Anoop says he regrets his loss.

“I have lost all peace of mind and cannot even live in my house because I am surrounded by people who ask me to fulfill their various needs because I have won the first prize. Where do I live now? I keep changing there because I have lost the peace of mind that I enjoyed till I won the award,” he said.

Anoop lives with his wife, children and mother in Srikaryam, about 12 km from the main capital city.

Anoop had taken the ticket of victory from a local agent here by breaking the small savings box of his child.

After deducting tax and other dues, Anoop will get an amount of Rs 15 crore as prize money.

“Now I really wish, I shouldn’t have won it. I, like most people, really enjoyed winning me with all the hype for a day or two. But now it’s become a threat and I I can’t even go out from where I live. People are asking me for help.”

He is using his social media account to tell people that he has not received the money yet.

“I have not decided what to do with the money and for the time being, I will keep the entire money in the bank for two years. Now I really wish I shouldn’t have had it, instead, it would have been better if the prize money was less,” said Anoop.

Anoop regrets that the time has come where his acquaintances will become enemies.

“My neighbors are angry that people who come looking for me roam around the neighborhood. Even wearing masks, people crowd around me, knowing that I am the winner. All my peace of mind has disappeared,” said an irritated Anoop.
