New Vice President: Jagdeep Dhankar elected as the new Vice President of India, result of exit IV News

New Delhi: NDA candidate for the post of Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has won the 14th Vice President of India in the election held on Saturday. He contested against opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Out of total 780 MPs, 725 MPs voted in the election. In the vice presidential election held on Saturday, 93 percent voting was recorded, and more than 50 MPs did not exercise their right. Dhankar got 528 votes while Margaret Alva got 182 votes. 15 votes are invalid.

Dhankar had the support of several non-NDA parties. Backed by Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal, Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party, Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Akali Dal and Shiv’s Eknath Shinde faction. Nine MPs from Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction supported Ms Alva.

Who is Jagdeep Dhankar?

Jagdeep Dhankar Jat was born in 1951 in a small village called Kitana in Rajasthan to a farming family. Born into a farming family in a remote village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, Dhankar worked tirelessly to become a successful professional before entering public life. While announcing Dhankar’s name as the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate, referring to his agricultural background, BJP chief JP Nadda called him a ‘kisan putra’ (farmer’s son). He has been in public life for more than three decades and Dhankar’s life story reflects the spirit of modern India.

Dhankar completed his schooling at Sainik School in Chittorgarh. After completing his graduation in Physics, he pursued LLB from Rajasthan University. Although a first-generation professional, he became one of the leading advocates of Rajasthan. Dhankar has practiced in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court. He was the youngest President of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association.
