The Southwest Monsoon is considered the lifeline of India’s agriculture based economy. India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the southwest monsoon reached Kerala on Wednesday, May 29 instead of its usual scheduled time of June 1.
Asani reached the Bay of Bengal
Earlier, the IMD had predicted the arrival of monsoon in Kerala on May 27 with the help of the remaining part of Cyclone Asani. This estimate had a pattern error of four days. However, the effect of this remnant weather system (Asani) spread over the southern peninsula weakened. Asani came to the Bay of Bengal a fortnight ago.
