A man has appeared in court for raping a woman over the weekend in Bolton.
A woman in distress contacted police during a foot patrol in the city center in the early hours of Saturday.
She told the authorities that she had been the victim of a serious sex offence.
The incident is being told near Bradshawgate.
Police questioned and arrested four people earlier this week.
Three have been released on bail and further interrogation is on.
But Prashant Gurung was charged with raping a woman on September 17 and appeared in Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court yesterday on Thursday.
The 20-year-old from Manchester Road, Bolton, made no plea.
The case was sent to Manchester Crown Court where it will appear next month.
Gurung has been remanded in custody till the next production.
Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead of GMP Bolton’s CID said after the incident that work would be done to keep town centers like Bolton safe.
They said: “We are grateful that this woman felt able to contact the authorities and receive expert assistance while the preliminary inquiry was completed. We are continuing to work with her and collect the necessary evidence.” .
“Greater Manchester Police are running a dedicated operation that regulates the night time economy in our city and city centres, including Bolton.
“This will continue in the coming days and weeks.
