Indian-origin Athira Preetha Rani has been selected for NASA’s 2022 astronaut training program. Athira, 24, hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is one of the 12 people selected from around the world, to whom NASA will provide this special training. She is going to be the first Kerala tourist to go into space. However, they now have to complete three to five years of training before going into space.
Athira will be given this training for three to five years. If Athira completes this training, she will be the third woman of Indian origin to go into space after Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams. Apart from this, he will also become Kerala’s first astronaut. The training program is run jointly by NASA, the Canadian Space Agency and the National Research Council of Canada.

Athira runs a startup in Canada called Exo Geo Aerospace Company with her husband Gokul. His father’s name is V Venu and mother’s name is Preeta. Athira has been interested in space since childhood. Athira did his initial studies from Astronomical Society Astra in Kerala. After this, on scholarship, Athira studied robotics at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada. Meanwhile she got married to Gokul. After this, together they started a startup for research related to space studies. While working at a startup, Athira learned about an astronaut training program.
