The Principal Secretary of UT Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, has emphasized the need to accelerate efforts to make ICT drug-free. Dr. Addressing the meeting of the third UT Level Nicard in Jammu, Mehta urged the officers to work to save the youth addicted to drugs as it is ruining the lives of our youth. He said that to control the evil of drugs, all government department along with common people must play their role so that we can save our youth from it. He said the government is soft on the people who are dependent, but the attitude of the government should be strict on the people who do business. He said that one of the government’s priorities is to be gentle with drug users and help them get rid of it. The Chief Secretary directed all the helpers to post the helpline number 14416 among the people so that people can contact if required.
He said that wherever drugs are seized, they should be destroyed in front of the public and such a move would help create awareness among the public. It was informed in the meeting that till October 2022, 596 cases have been registered in Jammu region and 785 cases in Kashmir region and 285 Durg dealers have been arrested.

It may be mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir administration has started a concerted campaign to make UT drug free and in this regard various departments are working closely with the people to control this evil. It is also worth mentioning here that Pakistan is continuing its efforts to plant narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir across the border and security operatives are cracking down on this nefarious ambition of Pakistan.
