How strong is the Indian bowling attack under the leadership of Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar will have the bowling responsibility for the Indian team for the T20 Asia Cup. Bhuvneshwar has been performing consistently well in white ball cricket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played a total of 17 matches for the Indian team this year and has taken 20 wickets. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar’s wicket-taking average is 17.80. Apart from Bhuvneshwar, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin will be the main spinners. In fact, only two of the three will get a chance to play in the fixed 11-man squad, with Chahal a strong contender. Because Hardik Pandya is also included in the team as an all-rounder and he is also capable of bowling four overs in a match along with batting.

Shreyas Iyer, Akshar Patel and Ishaan did not get a chance

Shreyas Iyer, Akshar Patel and Ishan Kishan have been consistently useful for the Indian team on overseas tours, but were not selected for the Asia Cup. While Iyer was in good form on the tour of West Indies, Akshar Patel also played a vital role in the last over match against West Indies to help the team to victory.

The news of Ishan Kishan’s non-selection for this season is shocking as Ishan Kishan is the highest run-scorer for India in T20 matches, yet he has not been selected.

Kohli, Rahul back in squad, Deepak Chahar reserve player

Former skipper Virat Kohli, who has been struggling with poor form, has been included in the 15-man squad for the Asia Cup. Vice-captain KL Rahul has also rejoined the team after surgery. Rahul was unable to participate in the series against the West Indies due to being infected with Covid. He has returned to the team after recovering from sports hernia surgery. Meanwhile, player Deepak Chahar, who has been out of the team for the past four months due to a back injury, has been included in the reserve players.

Apart from this, Harshal Patel, who is suffering from a rib injury, also did not get a chance in the main team. Regarding the team selection, BCCI wrote on Twitter that, ‘Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection due to injuries. Currently he is undergoing rehabilitation at NCA in Bengaluru.’

A five-member selection committee including coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma has selected 20 key players for the T20 Asia Cup. This includes 15 players, 3 standbys and 2 injured players (Bumrah and Harshal).
