Lahore: The District Returning Officer and Election Commissioners have not been given the required security regarding the Punjab Assembly elections.
According to information, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources say that the District Election Commissioner of Punjab has informed the Election Commission about the security situation.
District Election Commissioner Punjab has said that the required security has not been provided to the election officials and there is a rush during the filing of nomination papers in their offices because of the tense situation in the RO offices.
He said that clashes are taking place between candidates and supporters and if this situation continues, the election program in Lahore will have to be postponed.
Sources further say that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is likely to take heed of the district election chief’s concerns regarding security.
