Gujarat police weak in getting money back in online fraud cases IV news

144 cyber crooks have been identified by the police for repeatedly withdrawing money from bank accounts online in Gujarat, with the highest number of 59 in Ahmedabad city followed by 56 in Surat city, these crimes in 2018 accounted for an amount of 7.25 crore online fraud as of October 2021. A mere amount of Rs 85 lakh could be returned to the original owners. Thus, the performance of Gujarat Police in getting money back to people in cases of online fraud is very poor. The state Home Department provided this information in response to a written question in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

144 accused of e-fraud in Gujarat have been identified in 12 districts. These accused withdrew more than 7.25 crores from Barobar online accounts, 88.81 lakhs were recovered during police action, though 85.79 lakhs were returned to the original owners. A total of 144 accused have been identified: 1 in Vadodara city, 3 in Mehsana, 2 each in Jamnagar, Surendranagar, Banaskantha, 4 in Kutch East, 3 in Junagadh, 1 in Dahod, 2 in Girsomanath and 9 in Bharuch district. After the arrest of the accused in different cases, the charge sheet was presented in the court, in Banaskantha, the accused could not be caught yet.
