A four-day-old baby died after a fire broke out in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Banaskantha early on Wednesday, while three others – a baby and two adults – were rescued and shifted to a health center (CHC) at Shihori, said Swapnil Khare, District Development Officer (DDO).
While the cause of the fire at Honey Children’s Hospital is not known, an investigation is underway to ascertain whether it was due to human negligence, Khare added.
“We transferred three patients to CHC Shihori and after one of the adults developed serious complications. So far no FIR has been lodged. Taluka Health Officer and CHC Officer Shihori have submitted their reports on the incident. If we find any human error, we will take necessary action,” Khare said.
According to Block Health Officer Brijesh Vyas, eyewitnesses said that an electrical short circuit started the fire.
Assistant Superintendent of Police DT Gohil said, “Due to the smoke, a four-day-old baby died of suffocation. We have registered Accidental Deaths (AD) and started investigations.” —(via PTI)
