Farmer arrested in elephant death case; three action interim dismissal
Two days ago, Magna’s elephant died after being struck by lightning from an electric wire near Balakot. The farmer responsible for the accident is currently under arrest. Along with this, three forest officers including the forest ranger, who were negligent in their work, have been sacked.
Two days back in the night, an elephant had gone to the field in search of food in Nallampatti village near Balakode in Dharmapuri district. At that time, lightning struck a lamp wire in a paddy field and killed the Magna Hathi (male elephant without horns). The Balakot Forest Department reached the spot and conducted the post-mortem of the dead body and buried the elephant’s body.
Subsequently, the Palakode Forest Department investigated the death of the Magna elephant. Srinivasan, a farmer, was also arrested by the Marandahalli police for illegally installing electric fencing and electric lights in the field without proper permission, causing damage to wildlife in the area adjacent to the forest.

Zonal Forest Ranger Periyasamy has also suspended three persons, Balakodu Vanasagar Selvam, Vanavalar Ganapathi and Vanavalar Kalyanasundaram, who were on duty to oversee the safety of animals in the agricultural land adjacent to the forest.
