Parvaiz Elahi had suggested the names of Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhira and Naveed Akram Cheema while Hamza Shehbaz accepted the names of Mohsin Naqvi and Ahad Cheema for the minister post. Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Punjab’s caretaker chief minister appointed by the Election Commission of Pakistan, owns a media house and is considered very close to PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari. A special meeting of the Election Commissioners was held at the Commission office under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Election Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ikramullah Khan, Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, Member Balochistan Shah Mohammad Jatoi and Member Punjab Babar Hassan Bharwana were also present. present at the meeting 15 officials were assigned to participate in the meeting, including the secretary election committee. Secretary Umar Hameed, Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal Hussain informed, Additional Secretary Manzoor Akhtar, Director General Sanaullah, DG Law Muhammad Arshad were also invited to the consultation meeting. Before the meeting, the executive director and additional departments of the respective departments were also assigned to attend the meeting, constitutional and legal issues were also discussed at the meeting. Earlier, sources had said that in the meeting of the Chief Election Commission of Sikandar Sultan Raja, for an informal discussion between the Chief Election Commission and the committee members, a consensus on a decision on this matter will be paved. The Electoral Commission only had today to decide on a temporary minister because the 2-day time given to the Electoral Commission under Article A-224 of the Constitution expires today. A senior Election Commission official explained that the Election Commission could not hold a meeting in this regard a day earlier because it had formally received the names of four nominees from Punjab Congress Speaker Sabatin Khan on Saturday. Election Commission officials said that the Election Commission will surely fulfill its constitutional responsibility and announce the name of the interim Punjab Chief Minister today. The matter was expected to go to the Election Commission as Muslim League (Q) leader and PTI ally Chaudhry Pervez Elahi had already announced that if the Election Commission among those nominated by the Congress Committee if a “controversial person” is selected, they will approach the court. It should be noted that the issue of the appointment of the interim chief minister in Punjab suffered an inordinate delay due to the constant tension and disagreement between the provincial government and the opposition over the nominees after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly last week. Although according to Article A-224 of the constitution, the committee has 3 days to choose one of the 4, but due to the delay in notification of the appointment of the committee, the committee has only one day to discuss the names. left PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry says that the Election Commission will have to choose one of the 4 nominated candidates under Article 244-A of the Constitution in 2 days. The former Minister of Information had further said that the Electoral Commission had no authority to nominate anyone of its own choice to the position of Secretary of State.
