Bhopal Gas Tragedy Court News: The Constitution bench has rejected the Centre’s curative plea to increase the compensation for the victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

Supreme Court Verdict on Bhopal Gas Tragedy News: Bhopal gas tragedy 7844 crores will not be given to the victims as additional compensation. The Supreme Court has today dismissed the petition of the Central Government and granted major relief to the successor companies of Union Carbide Corporation (UCC). The Center had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding an additional Rs 7,844 crore from the companies to provide more compensation to the victims.

A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Abhay S Oka, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice JK Maheshwar had also reserved its decision on the Centre’s petition on January 12.

Explain that the Central Government has made this request because it has long been campaigning for adequate compensation and proper treatment for illnesses caused by toxic gas leaks. The government had filed this petition in December 2010. On June 7, 2010, a court in Bhopal sentenced seven UCIL officials to two years in prison.
