China has warned that Australia, Britain and the United States are taking a “mistake and a risk” by unveiling a nuclear-powered submarine deal. According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that the recent joint statement by the US, UK and Australia shows that the three countries have their own geopolitical interests.

To ignore the concerns of the international community in favor of interests is to go further down the path of “misdirection and danger”. Australia announced yesterday that it would buy five US nuclear-powered submarines and then build a new model using US and British technology in an ambitious plan to bolster Western forces in the Asia-Pacific in the face of a rising China. US President Joe Biden has emphasized that Australia will not acquire nuclear weapons. A State Department spokesman accused the three Western powers of promoting an arms race and said the security agreement was a matter of the Cold War. He said the sale of the submarine poses a serious nuclear threat and violates the goals of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It should be noted that such an announcement was sent from Australia when US President Joe Biden received Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in California. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the submarine deal was the biggest investment in the Australian defense force in our history. The submarine will be equipped with long-range cruise missiles that will provide deterrence. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese predicted the wider economic impact would be similar to when the auto industry came to the country after World War II. He said the Australian government estimated the multi-decade project would cost about $40 billion over the first 10 years and create about 20,000 jobs. He said that after Britain, Australia is now the second country to be given access to the US Navy’s nuclear secrets. Australia has ruled out using nuclear weapons as its submarine program marks a major new phase in its conflict with China, which has built a sophisticated navy and turned artificial islands into bases off the coast of the Pacific. The British Prime Minister’s Office said in its statement yesterday that in light of Chinese influence and Russian attacks on Western Ukraine, Britain is also trying to increase its military capabilities. More than $6 billion in additional funding over the next two years will help renew and strengthen critical munitions stocks, modernize Britain’s nuclear infrastructure and fund the next phase of the submarine programme, the statement said. According to the report, Australian sailors, engineers and other personnel will receive training from their US and UK partners to gain skills while British and US submarines regularly call at Australian ports.
