Mumbai Police’s Cyber Cell has arrested one person. The accused has been identified as Nagaraj Budumuru, who has been an accomplished Ranji cricketer. Nagaraj is alleged to have defrauded various companies in the name of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his PA to the tune of around three crore rupees. About 30 cases are registered against the accused. The police have also recovered Rs 7.6 lakh from the bank account of the accused. Along with the accused, the accused has also committed fraud in the name of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Cricketer turned cheater
Nagaraj Budumuru (28) is said to have impersonated various companies as an associate of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and asked the companies to sponsor cricketers. In this way, Nagraj defrauded crores of rupees by adopting the name of the Chief Minister and his PA. Budumuru was a part of the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team from 2014 to 2016. Budumuru was also a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL. Nagraj also participated in India’s B team from 2016 to 2018. Police say that when his cricket career took off, he turned to cheating to maintain his luxurious lifestyle.
