An artistic family in Mayiladuthurai has been making handicrafts since 4 generations. They are expanding their small business and shipping Colu toys overseas. They are happy to inform that orders are coming through WhatsApp.

Anand Kumar, a fourth generation graduate, has taken the Kolu toy manufacturing industry to the next level, which has been a cottage industry in Mayiladuthurai for three generations. Golu dolls and clay sculptures made by him are being shipped not only to Tamil Nadu but also to other countries like Kerala, Bengaluru, Delhi and abroad like USA, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai.

More than 10 people are also getting indirect employment from Anandkumar’s business engaged in production with two workers. Anand Kumar also conducts free summer classes for school and college students, which he has learned to the next generation of youth.

Anand Kumar, who claims that the government’s loan assistance is sufficient, is making clay idols 5 inches to 5 feet tall. Of these, 5 inch clay idols are being sold for 40 rupees and 5 feet clay idols for up to 9000 thousand rupees.

Anandkumar says that even when the corona epidemic was at its peak, there is no decrease in sales, while the corona infection is at a low level. Earlier people used to come personally and shop. Now, they place orders on WhatsApp and receive them through couriers. In such a situation, the public is eagerly watching the new Kolu doll made in Anandkumar’s art gallery.
